Plogue Chipsounds works great with its presets. But if you really want to nail the classic sounds you’re gonna need to dig into the rather confusing Wavetable. It’s really not as bad as it seems at first glance. This tutorial will help you learn how to use it to create classic sounds and also show you some great examples along the way.

Today we’ve got a new release from Baltimore based chiptune musician Mega Flare. This time he turns his focus to the dark melodies of Castlevania. Using his Nintendo Gameboy running LSDj, Mega Flare collaborated with Dj CUTMAN to record each channel of the Gameboy’s sound-chip separately to mix them using Ableton Live. The result are two huge chiptune tracks with massive bass-lines and crystal clear leads. You can hear the influence of Baltimore’s clubs in Mega Flare’s drum programming. This weekend was Philadelphia’s second annual 8Static Festival featuring some of the best chiptune musicians on the continent. Acts include Gameboy heavyweights Danimal Cannon and Trey Frey, and chiptune pioneers Trash80 and Cheap Dinosaurs. A personal highlight of mine was Radlib, who closed out day one.
