Although tons of chip artists utilize the Genesis or FM synthesis equivalents, there isn\u2019t as much pure Genesis chiptune releases as you might expect. Aside from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.videogamedj.com\/the-flight-away-sega-swing\/\">recent Flight Away album covered here<\/a>, here\u2019s a few more excellent Sega chip artists that you have to check out. These are mostly straight-up chip endeavors that really show off the power of the Yamaha YM2612 chip.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/freezedream.bandcamp.com\/\">Freezedream<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"position: relative; display: block; width: 400px; height: 100px;\" src=\"http:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/v=2\/album=3079866794\/size=venti\/bgcol=FFFFFF\/linkcol=4285BB\/\" height=\"100\" width=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nWhat It Sounds Like: The American Dollar, Album Leaf, Mum, Trentmoeller on your Genesis<\/p>\n<p>Favorite Tracks: Origami, The Girl In the Moon<\/p>\n<p>Album: <a href=\"http:\/\/freezedream.bandcamp.com\/album\/today\">Today<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If freezedream\u2019s Today album didn\u2019t actually come on a Sega Genesis cartridge I would never believe it was pure chip.\u00a0 Instead of pumping up retro-synth sounds to the max, freezedream dials them back to delicate FM bells and gently humming bass lines for a post-rock, ambient chill environment that is the perfect thing to listen to first thing in the morning or to cool down mentally at the end of a long day. You&#8217;ve got to love the unexpected but surprisingly smooth key shift in &#8220;Realtime Love&#8221; too. Quality composing and synth programming make up this release. If the first track seems a little quiet or dull to you, skip ahead to the regae-influenced \u201cSee You Next Thursday\u201d or any of the other moody, melodic tracks that compose this fine album.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/jredd\">Jredd<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Fusers%2F1052239\" height=\"450\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What It Sounds Like: Funk, Trance and Post Rock Flavors in 16-bit<\/p>\n<p>Favorite Tracks: <a href=\"http:\/\/ucollective.org\/audio\/Jredd\/dark+bounce+caverns+sega+genesis\/\">Dark Bounce Caverns<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ucollective.org\/audio\/Jredd\/limitless+sega+genesis\/\">Limitless<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jredd often collaborates with other artists on his tracks, so they range from smoky lo-fi funky grooves to epic crunchy trance tracks. From what I can tell, he\u2019s strictly a \u201cfor fun\u201d artist too, his stuff can be downloaded for free and will definitely work their way into your favorites. It\u2019s hard to put a label on them. Some tracks sound like old school break-ish stuff while some of the stand out tracks like Factory Life and Solar Surfing sound like something straight out of an old Genesis game. It\u2019s a fun and nostalgic trip that reminds of every 90\u2019s side-scrolling space shooter I ever played. The songs have enough variety to keep you from getting bored too. \u00a0Give each song a chance, as there are lots of unexpected bits towards the ends of many of them, like trippy drums that throw you off a bit and other fun changes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Want to make your own?
