Bob-omb battlefield
Christina Sochor Brings Jazz to Super Mario 64’s Bob-omb Battlefield.
Christina Sochor’s debut GameChops release, Bob-omb Battlefield, reimagines the iconic Super Mario 64 theme through a jazz-inspired arrangement featuring piano, bass, and drums.
Based in Honolulu, Hawai’i, Christina Sochor is a pianist, composer, and music educator. Bob-omb Battlefield marks her first collaboration with GameChops and introduces her approach to video game music through a live instrumental interpretation of one of Nintendo’s most recognizable soundtracks.
Originally composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario 64, Bob-omb Battlefield serves as the musical backdrop for the game’s opening course and remains one of the most recognizable themes in the Mario series. Sochor’s arrangement preserves the original melody while introducing jazz rhythms, improvisational passages, and ensemble-driven performance.
The release places Super Mario 64 music within a jazz setting, drawing on piano-led arrangements, live percussion, and acoustic instrumentation. Elements of swing, groove, and contemporary jazz performance provide a different perspective on the classic Nintendo composition while maintaining its connection to the original soundtrack.
As a GameChops debut, Bob-omb Battlefield expands the label’s catalog of Mario arrangements and joins a growing collection of video game jazz releases. Fans of Super Mario 64, Mario piano covers, Nintendo music, and jazz interpretations of video game soundtracks will find a new take on a familiar classic.
