The Master Chord
The Master Chord: Zelda Lofi Driven by Guitar
Super Lofi 64 trades piano for guitar on The Master Chord, a lofi Zelda album featuring relaxing covers of iconic Legend of Zelda songs from across the series.
For years, Super Lofi 64 has transformed video game music with their piano-led arrangements. On The Master Chord, the duo takes a different direction. The album focused on clean electric guitar with riveting live performances. It revisits some of the most loved music from Zelda history while providing a more band-focused feel.
The album includes tracks from Breath of the Wild, Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Skyward Sword, Link’s Awakening, and Tears of the Kingdom. It feels less like a collection of covers and more like a journey through Hyrule.
The familiar melodies are present but presented in a new way. Skyloft has a funky 70’s groove, while Serenade to a Great Fairy showcases guitar work reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Gerudo Valley transforms into a golden-hour groove, with a flowing guitar. Hateno Village is a slow moment that feels like “Zelda and chill.” Mipha’s Theme and Do You Remember slow things down further, creating songs perfect for when you want the world to quiet down. Meanwhile, tracks like Kokiri
Forest, Link’s House, and Windfall Island keep the mood light and playful.
I often found myself smiling because the arrangements seemed less focused on recreating the games and more on capturing the feeling of those places in my memory.
Longtime GameChops listeners may know Super Lofi 64 from past releases such as Poké & Sleep , Zelda & Sleep, and Zelda & Sleep 2. In these, the duo explored softer, piano-focused interpretations of classic game music. The Master Chord expands this idea by featuring more live instruments. Some records demand your focus. This one keeps you company.
By the end of the record, it wasn’t any single arrangement that stuck with me. It was the feeling that these songs had been lived with. The performances are relaxed, confident, and unhurried. If you’ve ever wanted to spend a little more time exploring Zelda’s world, The Master Chord is a great starting point.
