Zelda’s Midwest Emo Mixtape is a new sonic experiment from Tune in with Chewie ( Nestor Estrada), the musician/producer behind dark lofi albums such as Samus & Chill and Souls & Chill. Shaped by his youth and growing up with emo bands, Zelda’s Midwest Emo Mixtape re-envisions fourteen timeless Legend of Zelda themes as never heard before. 

Using the genre’s hallmarks of emotional guitar riffs, twinkling plucks, and nuanced reharmonization, Chewie creates a link between the worlds of gaming and moody ’00s nostalgia. 

The tracklist highlights music from the GameCube era’s Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, the Nintendo 64 classic Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword for the Wii, GameBoy handheld title Link’s Awakening, and the Switch’s modern classic Breath of the Wild. 

Featured composers include Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ohta, Koji Kondo, Hajime Wakai, Mahito Yokota, Shiho Fujii, Takeshi Hama, Minako Hamano, Kenta Nagata, and Manaka Kataoka.
